Our Curriculum Structure
A full curriculum cycle for students in KS3 and KS4, is made up of 3 phases as outlined below.
Phase 1 consists of work under the headings associated with Number 1, Geometry 1, Algebra 1 and Data 1.
Phase 2 consists of work under the headings associated with Number 2, Geometry 2, Algebra 2 and Data 2.
Phase 3 consists of work under the headings associated with Number 3, Geometry 3 and Algebra 3.Your son/daughter's Maths report will reflect attainment which is considered over a full curriculum cycle wrap-around of the three most recent phases, and not solely on one phase. In Autumn and Spring of Year 7, the reported attainment will include Key Stage 2 data to give a holistic picture.
At any point a student follows the full curriculum cycle on a particular 'Letter' as the cycle finishes they progress to the next 'Letter'.
To find out what the actual learning is you will need to know what 'letter' your son/daughter follows and their VLE login details, then use the link below to the Student Portal and navigate to the various Learning Journeys.
Important Dates
'Key Skills Homework' is a designated piece of extended work, that is set periodically throughout the course of the year. Each one is designed to address the revisiting of skills, that permeate many topics. As new fundamental skills are taught, they will begin to appear in subsequent tasks.
Key Skills homework will be set as close to these dates as possible:
Assessments are sat at the end of each phase of learning. Results of each assessment, whilst important, are combined as an average over a complete cycle of the curriculum to give a holistic overview of attainment.
Assessments will be set as close to these dates as possible (Year 11 students will also sit formal mock examinations in November and/or February/March):
What We Expect
ADVICE
Practising Maths is the only way to master it!
We recommend that students use mymaths and other links through the VLE to revise and consolidate learning.
EVERY Key Skills Homework question had dedicated supporting links to mymaths and YouTube. If needed, students should use these to support the completion of a question.
A question should therefore never be handed in unanswered.EVERY Key Skills Homework is marked by your son/daughter's Maths teacher.
They will provide written feedback each time.
Students next piece of homework is to respond to the feedback by completing a response to feedback. Some excellent examples of student responses to teacher feedback are:
The following guidelines are what we expect students to adhere and aspire to regarding their presentation:
